Ben Freeberg
Founder, Managing Partner
Ben is uniquely positioned to launch this cancer-focused venture capital fund as he has invested in it, built it, and lived it. He has invested in healthcare technology start-ups at two venture capital funds (Vice President of Optum Ventures, where he worked closely with key UnitedHealthcare and Optum stakeholders, and 1st employee at Alpha Partners). He helped build a value-based cancer technology start-up (health plan partnerships and operations at Thyme Care). He lived it as a cancer patient, and he is now six years cancer-free. Ben graduated from Duke with a B.Sc. in Economics.

Nandita Kotwani
Venture Associate
Nandita Kotwani, brings oncology industry experience across strategy, operations, and innovation. Most recently, she owned the development of new home-grown digital products and sourced external solutions at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Prior, she was at Flatiron Health, where she advised community oncology practices on digital health solutions. Nandita started her career at City of Hope, where she completed her Administrative Fellowship and was their Business Manager for Infusion & Pharmacy. Nandita received her Masters in Health Administration from Columbia.

Khail Macadaeg
Executive Assistant
Khail has over a decade of expertise in managing projects and providing administrative support. He specializes in operations, logistics, and budgeting, and has conducted extensive research in technology, environment, labor, and public service. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of the Philippines, where he also pursued Computer Science under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.

Jay Freeberg, CPA, CFP, MBA
Chief Financial Officer
Jay is a partner emeritus of a New York-based accounting firm, where he was a partner for 24 years. Jay has run a financial planning and investment management firm since 1986, currently with Onyx Bridge Wealth Group LLC. Jay served on the executive board for INAA, the International Association of Independent Accounting Firms. And, he is the Former Chairman of the Personal Financial Planning Committee for the New York State Society of CPAs. He is also a judge for the annual NYU Entrepreneurs Challenge.

Sebastian Rositano, MBBS MPH
Venture Partner
Sebastian is a medical doctor from Australia and former public health consultant at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. Dr. Rositano previously studied finance as a Fulbright Scholar at the Columbia University, New York and advised startups across life sciences and digital health.

Ethan Zohn
Venture Partner
Ethan Zohn is a humanitarian, inspirational speaker, and television host. He is also a former professional soccer player, cancer survivor and advocate, winner of the hit reality television show "CBS's Survivor: Africa" and a contestant on season 40 of "Survivor: Winners at War." Furthermore, he is an author and inventor. Ethan is the co-founder of the global non-profit, Grassroot Soccer, which has reached over 18 million youth in 60+ countries with vital health information and services. Diagnosed not once, but twice, with CD20+ Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in the span of several years, Ethan endured years of aggressive treatment, including two stem cell transplants. Ethan continues to use his journey and considerable platform to inspire others.

Lee Newcomer, M.D.
Advisor
Lee was the Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealth Group for 11 years. He later returned to UHG to lead an initiative combining clinical, financial, and program management experts to focus on cancer care. This team was the first to complete an episode payment program for cancer treatment and created the first commercial cancer database combining clinical and claims data. Prior to his work at UnitedHealth Group, Dr. Newcomer practiced medical oncology for nine years. He is a director at Myriad Genetics (MYGN), Coherus Bioscience (CHRS), and Cellworks.

Carolyn Starrett
Advisor
Carolyn Starrett is CEO of Flatiron Health, a world leader in transforming patients’ real-life experiences into knowledge to help accelerate cancer research and improve care and treatment decisions. Carolyn currently serves on the boards for Flatiron Health and Foundation Medicine. Prior to joining Flatiron, Carolyn held senior commercial, product, and operations roles at data and technology companies and led strategy and transformation efforts with healthcare and technology companies as a principal with Boston Consulting Group. She received her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and her Bachelor’s degree from Brown University.

Emily is a co-founder of Threshold Ventures. Her portfolio includes BetterUp, Brightline, Calibrate, Imagen, Livongo (NASDAQ: LVGO acquired by Teladoc Health), Ooda Health (acquired by Cedar), Redfin (NASDAQ: RDFN), Tia, Transcarent, Verge Genomics, Vital, Viz, and Wellframe (acquired by HealthEdge). In 2019, Forbes recognized Emily on the Midas Brink List as an investor destined for success. Emily is an active founding member of All Raise, a non-profit dedicated to improving access for women and others to start and invest in companies. She also serves as Chairperson of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). Emily is a Stanford grad with a BA in Political Philosophy with honors and an MBA.

Jeff Patton, M.D.

Jeff is the Chief Executive Officer and a Board Member at OneOncology. Dr. Patton is leading OneOncology in growing their advanced partnership of top community oncology practices and positioning them to support the entire continuum of cancer care in any reimbursement environment. Dr. Patton practiced with Tennessee Oncology for 24 years. He is currently the Chairman of the Board and served as CEO of Tennessee Oncology for a decade (2010-2020). Dr. Patton is also an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Tennessee Oncology Practice Society (TOPS), and is a board member and member of the executive committee of Community Oncology Alliance (COA).

Dr. Harlan Levine
President of Health Innovation and Policy
Dr. Harlan Levine is accountable for innovation, product development, and government relations at City of Hope. He previously held executive roles at UnitedHealth Group, Towers Watson, and Anthem Inc. He currently serves on advisory boards for numerous healthcare organizations and serves as chairman of the board for AccessHope, a spinout company from City of Hope.

Xavier Avat
Chief Business
Officer
Xavier Avat is responsible for leading the cancer center’s business development, entrepreneurship, and innovation strategies. Prior to joining Moffitt, Avat spent nearly 30 years in marketing, operations, and business development, most recently serving as Chief Business Officer at Capricor Therapeutics, a biotech company. Prior to that he served in various leadership roles at several life sciences and biotech companies, including Genentech and Gilead Sciences.


Dr. David Cohn
Interim Chief Executive Officer
and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. David Cohn is responsible for the strategic direction of the cancer hospital and its clinical practice, where he is a gynecologic oncologist. He is an NCI-funded scientist and holds patents for his discoveries. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has held leadership positions in his profession and is editor-in-chief of a premier subspecialty journal.
